BONT CHIROPRACTIC A STEP TO BETTER HEALTH ASK THE DOCTOR I have been getting numbness in my toes and foot on the right. I often wake up and have little feeling in my foot. Long days working also cause the numbness to creep in. What is causing this? Jason, Fredric Hi Jason! Thanks for the question. What you are experiencing is neuropathy. Neuropathy is what happens when a nerve is not firing correctly. This is usually due to some part of your body contacting a nerve, causing nerve conduction to be impeded. Muscle spasms in the low back or glutes can cause this, or an improperly aligned ver- tebrae (subluxation) could be the cause. When a muscle gets overly tight it may put pressure on a nerve. This pressure causes the nerve to lose its ability to send and receive signals from its target. The same can happen when a vertebra is out of alignment. This causes tension and pressure on the nerve at its root. Treatment involves proper diagnosis. Nerve root testing, muscle testing, and palpation can lead us to the root cause of nerve impinge- ment. Utilizing Muscle release techniques, interferential stimulation, and manual adjustments we can eliminate any nerve interference present. It is important to come see us as soon as possible. Neurop- athy is serious and must be corrected in a timely mater. The numb- ness can continue to spread up the leg without proper treatment. Submit your questions to: ask@bontchiropractic.net 144 N.
